Advanced Training Course For Young Drivers

Allocated Time: 4–Hours 1:1
Content: On–Road Advanced Driver Training
Vehicle: Customer Supplied Car
Introduction
The Ride Drive young driver safety course is a 4–hour one–to–one programme of advanced driver training suited to any young driver, 17 – 25–years of age and who passed their driving test within the preceding 12–months.
The objective is to ensure the young driver is equipped with the vital skills that are necessary for effective road driving and which are not provided as part of the learner training system. This is all to do with the missing bits, the real life stuff that is key to survival and yet beyond the comprehension of the standard driving instructor.

The Format of The Course
The programme begins at a meeting point you mutually agree with your trainer, and this will be somewhere either local to or at your home address. The training takes place with your own car, as this will be the vehicle you will continue to drive after the session has been completed.
After a short briefing you are initially guided over a pre–planned route that incorporates a number of road and traffic features that will be used to illustrate the various technical points of the driving system.
Before long you begin to view your road environment differently, as you begin to take on board the Roadcraft driving system. This provides a strategy by which you anticipate and plan for hazards with the objective that nothing should take you by surprise.
You find out how driving should be a continuous process of risk assessment and this can involve risk assessing more than one hazard at the same time, prioritising each according to their degree of threat potential. |

Keeping Everything Under Control
There is input on car control, which covers points concerning the factors that affect the balance of the car, the identification of braking zones, turn in points for bends and defensive road positioning methods. Road–space management is introduced, which involves you building an exclusion zone around the car to provide other drivers with enough room to make their errors without there being conflict.
Perhaps the biggest revelation of all will be the technique used for bend assessment. This is where you can determine the nature and severity of a bend before you actually reach it. Once practiced enough to become fluent, you will have the ability to adjust the speed of approach that is appropriate for the curve well before the first turn of the steering wheel is made.
You don’t have to spend the full 4–hours driving, as there will be opportunity for you to stop, perhaps for a coffee, and to discuss the theoretical aspects of the techniques you have begun to use. Seeing coasters used to assimilate vehicles going through various manoeuvres on a café table will live long in the memory.
Conclusion
The difference between training with Ride Drive to that of the standard driving instructor is that our team have received the highest grade of driver training available. These are people who come from a professional background that involved continually making assessment of driver behaviour as well as attending and investigating the causes of road collisions.
When participating in a Ride Drive young driver safety course you are tapping into an extraordinary range of life–skills for the road as well as special driving experience at an advanced level.
